Cars came to a halt Tuesday night in parts of South Florida as roads were flooded after the storm.

When is the heaviest rain expected?

The National Weather Service in Miami said Wednesday morning that heavy rain was forecast on Thursday as a low-pressure area developed nearby but heavy rain was expected from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning.

The weather agency said there is uncertainty over the exact sum and timing of the heaviest rainfall, but metro areas on the east coast are expected to receive the most rainfall.

How much rain is expected?

The weather agency said 3 to 8 inches of rain is forecast locally from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning with a high volume of more than 10 inches.

Is there a flood clock or warning?

Flood warnings have been in place in coastal and metro areas of Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties since Thursday morning. A coastal flood statement is in effect for the Florida Keys.

What else do you need to know about the weather?

A wind warning for easterly winds of 20 to 30 mph is effective for all coastal Atlantic regions, with potential gusts of up to 40 mph. A small craft advisory is effective for the coastal waters of the Florida Keys.
